Issa Baluch is Chairman of Africa Atlantic Holdings Ltd, a commercial farm currently developing a 25,927 acre (10,497 hectare) farm on the shores of Lake Volta in Ghana, West Africa; and the Agribusiness Knowledge Center, a non-profit research and training facility being developed in association with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and the Science, Technology and Globalization Project of the Harvard Kennedy School. In 2011 Harvard University admitted Issa as a Fellow in its inter-faculty program the Advanced Leadership Initiative. The following year 2012 Issa was chosen to continue as a Senior Fellow.
A 37-year veteran of the freight forwarding industry, Issa is credited with helping to pioneer the thriving sea-air transport business that operates in the United Arab Emirates. Issa holds a Masters in Business from the University of Hull (UK) and has also completed numerous aviation, transport, and freight forwarding programs. He started his career as a Tally Clerk at the Gulf Agency Company in Dubai in 1973. In 1989, Issa founded the Swift Group in Dubai, one of the leading logistics providers in the UAE with offices in 40 countries throughout Africa, Asia, and the Middle East.
Aside from being Founder and Chairman of the Swift Group, Issa also served as President of FIATA (the International Association of Freight Forwarders Associations) and served on the Board of the International Cargo Association (TIACA) and Dubai Logistics City, and the Marketing Committee of the Dubai Flower Centre. For his outstanding services to the international logistics transport industry, Issa has so far received two Lifetime Achievement awards: in 2006 presented by Air Cargo News UK, and in 2013 presented by STAT Trade Times.
Issa, along with his wife and family, resides in Dubai, UAE and North Carolina.
