Jon Vandenheuvel is CEO and co-founder of Africa Atlantic Holdings Ltd, Africa Atlantic Franchise Farms Ltd (Ghana), and the Agribusiness Knowledge Center (Lake Volta, Ghana). Africa Atlantic is a commercial farm growing maize on the shores of Lake Volta in the Afram Plains region of Ghana, and the Agribusiness Knowledge Center is a non-profit research and training facility being developed in association with the Masachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and the Science, Technology and Globalization Project of the Harvard Kennedy School. Africa Atlantic has registered a long term agricultural development lease on 10,497 hectares (25,927 acres).
Prior to Africa Atlantic, Jon built a corporate strategy and government policy consultancy, advising Fortune 500 companies and trade associations on public policy matters. Earlier, Jon spent 10 years as a senior congressional aide. His introduction to Africa was a Congressional trade mission to Nigeria, Ghana, Senegal and Morocco in 2001.
Jon has an M.A. from Johns Hopkins University, a B.A. from Wheaton College (IL), and has taken executive courses at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA). Jon, his wife Vicki, and three daughters have lived in Ghana, West Africa and currently reside in Maryland. Jon works from offices in Maryland, Ghana, and the United Arab Emirates.
